Mayo-Hegar Needle Holder, Heavy Pattern, Cross-Serrated with Groove is a ratcheted, finger ring instrument available in a wide range of lengths, and used in multiple types of surgical procedures. Due to it's versatility, it is one of the most commonly used surgical tools for both human and animal procedures. Shorter length products may be used in oral, gynecological, or dermatological procedures, as well as with small animals. Larger lengths of this product may be used for deep tissue suturing such as in bariatric procedures, or in large animal procedures. The Mayo-Hegar needle holder is commonly used with larger, heavier suture needles because of it's wide jaws.

Choosing a Mayo-Hegar Needle Holder
The Mayo-Hegar is the most widely used general-purpose needle holder pattern, recognised by its robust box-lock jaws and ratchet handle. It suits medium-to-heavy suturing across general, orthopedic, gynecological and abdominal procedures.
Shorter lengths (13-15 cm) suit superficial and hand suturing where finer control is needed; longer lengths (18-20.5 cm) are better suited to deep cavity or bariatric work where extra reach is required. Tungsten-carbide (TC) jaw inserts extend grip life on synthetic monofilament sutures and are a common upgrade over standard stainless steel jaws for high-volume use.
