They are the most common type of forceps utilized when the use of forceps is necessary. They feature an inline handle and long, fenestrated, smooth, teardrop shaped, blades. This is also referred to as having a cephalic curve. Simpson obstetrical forceps are similar Elliott forceps; however, the Simpson instrument has parallel shanks, whereas Elliott forceps have overlapping shanks.
